Daisyhouse Transitional Service Social Return on Investment (SROI) Report

Social Return on Investment (SROI) is an approach to understanding and managing thevalue of the social, economic and environmental outcomes created by an activity or an organisation understanding the value of the changes that other people experience as a result of the work that an organisation does. SROI seeks to include the values of people that are often excluded from markets in the same terms as used in markets, that is money, in order to give people a voice in resource allocation decisions.

Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis assigns a monetary value to the social and environmental benefit that has been created by an organisation or a project by identifying indicators of value, which can be allocated a financial proxy. Comparing this value to the investment required to achieve the impact produces an SROI ratio. It takes standard financial measures of economic return a step further by capturing social as well as financial value.

By developing an understanding of the organisation, how it meets its objectives, and how it works with its stakeholders, an organisation can create its own impact map, or impact value chain, which links inputs and outputs through to outcomes and impacts.

The SROI report on the Daisyhouse Transitional Service describes the changes that stakeholders experienced as a result of the service and explains the indicators of value that were applied to evaluate the social return generated by the project.

The Impact Map records the relationship between Daisyhouse and the various stakeholders, the changes that it created for the different stakeholders and shows how these changes have been measured and valued. It results in a calculation of the ratio of social value resulting from the investment in the organisation.

SROI is not an exact science. It is dependent on subjective considerations and attitudes to monetary values may differ between stakeholders. Putting a monetary value on some of the benefits experienced by stakeholders is extremely difficult. So while the financial ratio is of interest it is not to be regarded as a precise Return on Investment figure. The focus here should be on understanding the project itself better and the impact of that project on stakeholders so that we can work at delivering an even better service with better outcomes.
We hope you enjoy reading the report and that through doing so you understand the impact of our service better. We welcome your feedback.
